12
Scope of Work
Continued
Task 6 Deliverables:
• Nine Port Gardner Bay Basin Plans (Draft and Final)
• Updated Final Chapters 1 and 2 for Volume 3 Port Gardner Bay Watershed Plan
• Appendices to Basin Plans as defined in the protocols document
Task 7—North Creek Fish Surveys and Invertebrate Collection
In support of the Lake Washington Watershed Plan, Phase 2 services include
conducting fish surveys and invertebrate collection in the North Creek system within the
City. The work will provide data on aquatic habitat use of North Creek by fish and
invertebrates, and will support analysis and interpretation of stream habitat above and
below a point in the North Creek system where the City provides flow augmentation in
North Creek during the summer months.
Otak staff will conduct fish capture and benthic invertebrate collection activities at
appropriate sites in the North Creek system within the City. Otak will provide analysis of
data collected, and will provide documentation of the work conducted.
7.1-Conduct Fish Surveys
Otak will conduct fish capture surveys using a combination of techniques including
passive fish capture using baited traps, fish netting, and electrofishing. Otak will provide
equipment needed for the fish removal activities. Otak will obtain the WDFW Scientific
Collection Permit for the fish removal, and will ensure that a qualified biologist is on site
during fish removal activities.
All electrofishing activities will follow the National Marine Fisheries Service Guidance for
Electrofishing Water Containing Salmonids Listed Under the Endangered Species Act
and any guidance or regulations provided by WDFW. All fish will be identified to
species, assigned a size/stage category based on snout-fork length, and subsequently
released back into the stream reaches where they were captured. Fish capture,
identification, and release shall be conducted so as to minimize the amount and
duration of handling. Fish anesthesia will not be used for this study.
7.2—Conduct Invertebrate Collections •
Collection methods for benthic macroinvertebrates will be based upon those detailed in
EPA/444/4-89/001—Rapid Bio-assessment protocol, Standard Methods 10500B.3 and
5. Sampling of benthic macroinvertebrates will be conducted downstream and upstream
of the site at which flow augmentation occurs, in similar aquatic/stream habitat.
Sampling will involve collection of macroinvertebrates using D-nets and a kick-and-
City of Everett—Surface Water Comprehensive Plan Phase 2 12
February 13, 2012 137 . otak
