Forterra, formerly known
as the Cascade Land Conservancy, has contracted with other municipalities such as Seattle and Tacoma for
similar restoration plan development. This contractual relationship is commonly referred to as a"Green City
Partnership".
The work to be accomplished by Forterra will, in part, build awareness of the function of urban forests,
increase the community's capacity to be effective stewards and teach scientifically based restoration and
maintenance skills to community stewards of urban forests. The overall intended outcome is to help preserve
publicly owned urban forests in terms of their health, functionality and long-term ecological sustainability.
This partnership would be the first Green City Partnership in Snohomish County. The Boeing Company,
through its foundation, will contribute $100,000 to this effort(under a separate agreement with Forterra).
The total cost of this projected two-year work is $231,000. Everett's share is $70,000, or 30%.
The work will be accomplished in coordination with the Public Works and Planning Departments, as well as
the Board of Park Commissioners, Tree Committee and community stewards.
RECOMMENDATION:
Authorize the Mayor to sign a Professional Services Agreement with Forterra to develop and implement a
restoration plan for several publicly owned urban forested areas within the City of Everett, in the amount of
$70,000.
17
