Minimum lettering. <br /> a. A minimum of lettering height of 6 inches for the primary business name and three <br /> inches for secondary business names is required for readability. <br /> b. Free-standing signs for individual businesses are encouraged to include the street <br /> address number. <br /> 2. Materials and design. Freestanding signs shall utilize materials and architectural design <br /> elements that are consistent with the architecture of the buildings. Freestanding signs <br /> must have a substantial base that is at least half as wide and thick(measured horizontally) <br /> as the sign itself. Sign bases must have an architectural treatment that incorporates <br /> materials similar to the sign and/or the business's building. (Note that the City may relax <br /> the dimensional requirements for the base if it is a sculptural element such as in the right- <br /> hand photo of Figure 31B.090-5.) <br /> 3. For back-lit sign panels,the background color must be darker than the lettering or logo. <br /> 4. Landscaping. Install one square foot of landscaping at the base of the sign per one square <br /> foot of sign face, and: <br /> a. Landscaping includes a decorative combination of ground cover and shrubs to <br /> provide seasonal interest in the area surrounding the sign. <br /> b. Landscaping should be well maintained at all times of the year. <br /> c. The City may reduce the landscaping requirement where the signage incorporates <br /> stone,brick, or other decorative materials. <br /> 69 <br /> 151 <br />
