The following was observed:
Upon arrival, contractor was currently excavating for sewer line within the building limits. Contractor first scraped
back the previously placed recycled concrete cap on the building pad. The contractor plans to use a portion of the
material as trench backfill. The contractor then encountered a brown silty sand with gravel with concrete rubble. This
material ranged in depth from 4'-6' in depth. The contractor also plans to use this material as trench backfill. ESNW
recommends that prior to backfilling with this material the larger pieces of concrete be removed to decrease the void
content and risk of nesting materials. Finally at the bottom of the trench the contractor encountered a damp to almost
wet grey silty sand with gravel. This material also included concrete rubble however not to the extent of the fill above
it. The contractor also plans to use this material as well as trench backfill. ESNW collected three proctors, one from
each of the materials.
Prior to departure, the contractor ceased excavation due to the need of a sewer inspection that needs to take place
prior to proceeding. The inspection is scheduled for tomorrow.
ESNW will return when requested.
Wendy Jones
COPY TO: CONTINUED ON NEXT PAGE El
