Again, police involvement should not be limited to those <br /> instances where the police are already patrolling the property. Employees should <br /> have observed the suspicious activity and called 911 immediately. Non-registered <br /> guests coming and going from a motel room, and people waiting in their cars with no <br /> other apparent purpose is suspicious activity. This is particularly true in light of the <br /> history of unlawful activity at the Best Inn. <br /> 68.Illumination. Better lighting and removing the cover of darkness from the Best Inn <br /> parking lots would have also deterred people and cars from using the Best Inn for <br /> unlawful activity. <br /> 69.D131 2-9946 — DRUG USE AND PARAPHERNALIA. On May 27, 2012, at <br /> approximately 7:00 a.m. Officer Steve Ross was patrolling the parking lot of the Best <br /> Inn. He noticed two males sitting in a car that was backed into the stall in front of <br /> room 115. Their eyes widened and they appeared anxious when they saw his patrol <br /> car. He contacted the two males who had begun to exit the car. The passenger <br /> was the registered guest of the Best Inn. Officer Ross observed marijuana through <br /> the driver's side open car door. The driver was arrested for drug paraphernalia. As <br /> Officer Ross continued to investigate he discovered a third female passenger lying <br /> on the back seat in the car. All suspects appeared to be under the influence of <br /> drugs. Officer Ross later served a search warrant on the car and found <br /> methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and prescription drugs in the car. <br /> 70.Do Not Rent List. An accurate and up-to-date "Do Not Rent" list may have <br /> prevented this incident and would prevent it in the future.
