I
59.DD12-8901 — DRUG DEALING. On May 12, 2012, Officer Wallace conducted
another proactive patrol of the Best Inn. While on site a Best Inn employee asked
for assistance in kicking out occupants of room 114 for suspected drug activity. Five
individuals were in this room, none of whom were the registered guest. Three
females stated they were at the room to purchase heroin from a male in the room.
Two males including the "dealer" were arrested for outstanding warrants. Heroin
and marijuana along with a stolen ipad were found in the room.
60.Do Not Rent. An accurate and up-to-date "Do Not Rent" list may have prevented
this incident and would prevent it in the future. Ms. Ahn did not add these persons to
a "Do Not Rent" list until Sgt. Bosman provided Ms. Ahn an updated list in July 2012.
61.Employee Monitoring. Again, police involvement should not be limited to those
instances where the police are already patrolling the property. Employees should
not wait for Everett police officers' proactive patrols of the Best Inn to ask for
assistance.
62.Video Surveillance. Persons not registered at the motel would be less likely to
come to the Best Inns to buy or sell drugs if they knew they were being videotaped.
63.DD12-8924 - DRUG ACTIVITY AND ATTEMPTED ILLEGAL SALE OF A
FIREARM — Later in the day on May 12, 2012, Officer Wallace returned to the Best
Inn while on patrol. He observed a female sitting in the passenger side a vehicle,
apparently waiting for someone. Knowing the history of drug activity at the Best Inn
and that it is common for people to wait in the car while another passenger or driver
makes a drug deal, Officer Wallace approached the vehicle. The female was known
to Officer Wallace from other drug related matters. Officer Wallace learned from
dispatch that the female, who was in the car with her small child, was prohibited from
being at the Best Inn pursuant to a "Stay Out of Drug Area" order.
64.Officer Wallace's contact with the female led to contact with the driver of the car,
who was returning from room 202. The driver's questionable reasons for visiting
room 202 (he said he picked up a gas card that he could not produce for Officer
Wallace), caused Officer Wallace to make contact with the occupants of room 202.
There were three occupants in room 202, none of whom were the registered guest.
A fourth occupant, also not the registered guest, but for whom the room was rented,
arrived later. Inside room 202 Officer Wallace found a Ruger 5 shot .357 revolver,
loose ammunition, several large knives, a meth pipe and packaged
methamphetamine. On one occupant, Officer Wallace found a butterfly knife and
heroin. Ultimately one of the occupants was arrested for possession of a firearm 1,
possession of a controlled substance, and an outstanding warrant.
65.Do Not Rent List. An accurate and up-to-date "Do Not Rent" list may have
prevented this incident and would prevent it in the future. Ms. Ahn did not add these
21 cs
