HOGL4ND'S -='
® 0 . - “
HOGLAND TRANSFER COMPANY, INC.
December 14, 2012
City of Everett
Planning Department
2930 Wetmore, Suite 8A
Everett, WA 98201
My name is Steve Holtgeerts, and members of my family have operated Hogland Transfer
Company here in Everett since it was founded in 1933. I am writing in support of the
Central Waterfront Redevelopment Plan that will be the subject of a Public Hearing on
Wednesday, December 19th, 2012. We are a local trucking company that provides family
wage jobs for approximately 65 employees, with an annual payroll around$5.5 million.
Our business, like many others, was significantly impacted with the closure of the
Kimberly-Clark facility earlier this year, and we feel that the plan under consideration
provides a good opportunity for future economic development that could provide
opportunities for our services.
We feel it is imperative that the site retain the current M2 zoning, and at least half of the
site remain Water Dependant Industrial, as that property is the last remaining site in
Everett that could offer deep water access. Allowing Non-Water Dependant Industrial on
a portion of the site also makes sense, as that may provide an opportunity for a greater
number of jobs.
Also, as the Trucking Industry representative on the Washington State Freight Mobility
Strategic Investment Board, I am familiar with a project that we approved funding for
during the 2013-2015 biennium that would provide improved truck access between 1-5
and the port area. This funding requires approval from the State Legislature, and I am
concerned that reduced truck traffic as a result of the Kimberly-Clark closure might
jeopardize the chances to secure the funding unless the redevelopment plans include the
likelihood of similar volumes of truck traffic.
Thank you for considering our views and support of this project.
Sincerely,
Steve Holtgeerts
President
6605 Hardeson Road, Suite 101 Everett, WA 98203
Everett (425) 407-1011 Seattle: (206) 624-3000 Fax (206) 624-3297
