We feel a
balanced approach serves all interests.
Of the 92 acre Central Waterfront Planning Area, the 65 acre Kimberly Clark site is ideally located beside
active and secured Port and Navy facilities, is a natural extension to the commercial activities that are
already taking place there, and takes advantage of a federal navigation channel with rare deep water
access.
The waterfront has always provided decent, family wage jobs, both union and non-union,which
generate significant and positive ripple effects to this community by way of pumping much needed
revenues into the local economy and contributing significant tax revenues to the city, county and state
to assist with their public mandates.
As a company who operates up and down the West Coast of North America we can say conclusively that
opportunities to develop a waterfront site like M2 are rare. This year, with current port facilities, our
industry will provide upwards of 100,000 man hours, moving over 200,000 revenue tons of cargo by an
ILWU labor force that earns approximately$90,000 per member, per annum.
Thank you for allowing us to add our voice to your proceedings. We trust the City Council will do what's
best for the citizens and businesses that operate within its boundaries.
Sincerely,
Jeff Lentgis
Regional Vice President
1131 S.W.
