I
c. If the test results from the first Production Sample are outside the tolerances
of 9-03.8(7),the other two samples will be tested and the results of all three
tests will be used for acceptance in accordance with 5-04.5(1) and will be
r; used in the calculation of the Composite Pay Factor (CPF) the maximum
CPF shall be 1.00.
Prior to the first day of paving, six Ignition Furnace Calibration Samples shall be
obtained to calibrate the Ignition Furnaces used for acceptance testing of the HMA.
Calibration samples shall be provided by the Contractor when directed by the
Engineer. Calibration samples shall be prepared in accordance with WSDOT SOP
728.
5-043(8) Mixing
5-04.3(8)A Acceptance Sampling and Testing—HMA Mixture
5-04.3(8)A1 General
Delete all paragraphs of 5-04.3(8)A1 and substitute the following:
Acceptance of HMA shall be as defined under non-statistical or commercial
evaluation.
Non-statistical evaluation will be used for all HMA not designated as
Commercial HMA in the Contract Documents.
Commercial evaluation will be used for Commercial HMA and for other classes
of HMA in the following applications: sidewalks, road approaches, ditches,
slopes, paths, trails, gores, pre-level, and pavement repair. Other nonstructural
applications of HMA accepted by commercial evaluation shall be as approved by
the Engineer. Sampling and testing of HMA accepted by commercial evaluation
will be at the option of the Engineer. Commercial HMA can be accepted by a
contractor certification letter stating the material meets the HMA requirements
defined in the contract.
Testing of HMA shall be for Grading,Asphalt Content, and Compaction.
1 Testing of HMA aggregate shall be for SE, Fracture, and Uncompacted Void
Content of Fine Aggregate.
The Mix design will be the initial job mix formula(JMF)for the class of HMA.
The Contractor may request a change in the JMF. Any adjustments to the JMF
will require the approval of the Project Engineer and may be made in accordance
with Section 9-03.8(7).
5-04.3(8)A4 Definition of Sampling Lot and Sublot
Delete 5-04.3(8)A4 and substitute with the following:
For the purpose of acceptance sampling and testing, a lot is defined as the total
quantity of material or work produced for each job mix formula (JMF) placed.
The sublot is defined as the number of samples required to be taken based on the
quantity of HMA placed.Only one lot per mix design will be expected to occur.
Sampling and testing for HMA evaluation shall be performed on the frequency
of one sample per sublot. Sublot sampling shall be as follows.
1. HMA shall be at the start of placing the HMA and every 800 tons of
HMA placed.
2. Aggregate used in HMA shall be at the start of placing the HMA and
every 1,600 tons of HMA placed.
5-04.3(8)A7 Test Section—HMA Mixtures
Delete 5-04.3(8)A7.
I
HAYES STREET REGULATOR February, 2017
AND CSO CONTROLS (SRO1, SRO2,AND SRO3)
WO No—UP3398-31 SP- 152
