ELS'2/1717 <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 6 3 <br /> A RESOLUTION: In Support of <br /> Expanding Opportunities in Higher Education <br /> in the City of Everett and the North Puget Sound Region <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Everett has reached out to Washington State University <br /> to address the insufficiency of baccalaureate and graduate degree opportunities in the <br /> community; and <br /> WHEREAS, the need for broad educational support in addition to the need for <br /> science, technology, engineering and math programs is particularly acute; and <br /> WHEREAS, the focus of discussions between the City and Washington State <br /> University has been to find an avenue to locally serve the critical engineering needs of <br /> our aerospace-based economy; and <br /> WHEREAS, The Boeing Company has consolidated its engineering and research <br /> and development functions for commercial airplanes in Everett; and <br /> WHEREAS, the United States Air Force has recently awarded the Boeing <br /> Company a $356 contract for 179 military tankers to be built in Everett; and <br /> WHEREAS, one in four of Boeing's estimated 20,000 engineering workers is <br /> retirement eligible; and <br />
