WHEREAS, another quarter of Boeing's engineering ranks becomes eligible <br /> within five years; and <br /> WHEREAS, Boeing's need for qualified engineers stretches across a wide scope <br /> of engineering disciplines; and <br /> WHEREAS, these aerospace workforce levels are representative of the critical <br /> needs in our health care, high tech, utility and small business sectors; and <br /> WHEREAS, previous studies demonstrate that Snohomish County continues to <br /> be among the most under-served areas of the state for higher education; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Governor's Higher Education Funding Task Force has <br /> recommended the addition of 6,000 additional in-state graduates by 2018; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Economic Development Advisory Group reported the City of <br /> Everett's focus on higher education should remain a top priority; and <br /> WHEREAS, by creating greater higher education access within the state's <br /> aerospace cluster, we: <br /> • Protect our state's largest industry and job generator <br /> • Serve the supply line, related industries and support infrastructure <br /> • Maintain our global competitiveness, and <br /> • Preserve for our children, career opportunities in aerospace; and <br /> WHEREAS, Washington State University has expressed a willingness and <br /> readiness to build partnerships to provide a broad range of upper division <br /> programming; <br /> 2 <br />
