..7 Site Vicinity
Senator Henry M. Jackson Park is located in north Everett in
close proximity to the Snohomish River, the Burlington North-
,_. - em Santa Fe railroad (BNSF) and Interstate 5. The park is pri-
manly surrounded by residential uses to the west and south,
and by a mix of residential and commercial uses to the north,
and commercial uses to the east. It serves two neighborhoods:
the Delta Neighborhood, and the Riverside Neighborhood to
the south. The Everett Central Business District is situated Residenfial building south of 18"'Street ap-
proximately two miles to the southwest and Everett Commu-
nity College is less than 1 mile to the northwest. Other nearby
parks include Wiggums Hollow Park to the north, Summit Park
;-'-' and Garfield Park to the south, and Langus Riverfront Park to
the east on the other side of the Snohomish River. Garfield
Elementary School is several blocks to the south.
Existing Park Uses
g - - - Senator Henry M. Jackson Park is used for informal
,,?1,i,,...--,,f„ i4 ;.. ,' neighborhood recreation as well as for softball and kickball
Y -} league play during the summer months. Use of the lawn areas
t3 -..' . " and athletic fields is limited during the winter months due to
Play equipment near center of park muddy conditions. The site currently accommodates two base-
ball/softball fields with three-hundred foot outfields, two small
Y children's play areas, a basketball court, picnic facilities, a
` ''f' `t• • 4: `& restroom, and parking. A large, relatively flat open lawn is
,V `` used for pick-up soccer games and other informal recreational
"41- '.i.; °t activities. Occasional games of pelota mixteca are played in
the west parking lot (pelota mixteca is likely derived from an
rancient Mesoamerican ball game commonly played in the
Mexican states of Oaxaca and Guerrero). The southeast
corner of the site, east across Summit Avenue, contains a
sloped lawn with trees available for passive recreational
activities such as Frisbee, dog walking and informal picnicking.
Because the park is so open there are few areas of the park to
Northeast corner of park from soccer field explore and very little diversity of spaces.
s t e r'S, h _ :t a
7
West side of.ark
10 City of Everett
