FINAL MASTER PLAN
Final Master Plan
Recommendations for Senator Henry M. Jackson Park re-
spond to the site analysis, park history, programming require-
ments, city goals, regulatory requirements, and community in-
put received during the design process. The Final Master Plan
describes Vehicular Access and Parking; Pedestrian/Non-
motorized Access and Circulation; Athletic Fields; Neighbor-
hood Facilities; Buildings; Site Furnishings; Traffic; Planting;
and, Utilities. This chapter contains a detailed description of
the recommendations.
The final master plan provides more active spaces and park
amenities on the east side of the park adjacent to E. Marine
View Drive and commercial properties, and provides more
passive, neighborhood oriented amenities on the west side of
the park adjacent to residential areas. The plan addresses the
needs of the neighborhood with provision of accessible pedes-
trian pathways throughout the park, a new children's play area,
upgraded picnic facilities, restrooms, neighborhood gathering
space, interpretive and community gardens, a natural turf un-
programmed open play area for impromptu neighborhood
games, a basketball court, and unstructured open space, and
new synthetic turf athletic fields. The designated viewpoint and
view terrace with ample seating provides a place to enjoy
mountain views as well as watch activities elsewhere in the
park. Senator Henry M. Jackson is celebrated with a recogni-
tion at the view terrace overlooking the athletic fields. All areas
of the park are designed for year-round use and are in confor-
mance with ADAAG. The final master plan incorporates design
elements that conform to CPTED and sustainability goals sum-
marized in the report introduction.
Vehicular Access and Parking
The final plan suggests acquisition of approximately 2 acres to
the north. This acquisition would allow primary vehicular ac-
cess to occur at a new park entrance off of E. Marine View
Drive. Vehicular access to the north parking lot from E. Marine
View Drive keeps most of the park traffic on the major arterial
and off local neighborhood streets. A potential future signal
may be provided at the north parking lot driveway intersection.
The plan suggests potential future vehicular access to the ad-
jacent property to the north. A turn-around loop with a centrally
located drop-off area for ball games and events is provided at
the west end of the main lot. The parking lot driveway is de-
signed to accommodate large emergency vehicle and bus
turning movements.
Senator Henry M Jackson Park Master Plan 31
