General Note #3 on Sheet S0.01 for clarification of concrete classes. Bid Item No. A89 includes
shaft cap concrete Class 4000. Bid Item No. B3 is deck concrete. Bid Item No. B2 is West, East,
North walls of the elevator shaft and other concrete in the elevator shaft.
Question 4
What bid item is the concrete seal work paid under?
Answer— Bid Item No. A90. See General Notes and Bid Item List.
Question 5
What bid item does the channel cap on the throw barrier go into?
Answer—Bid Item No. B24.
Question 6
What is the sheen level of the black coatings to be applied to the bridge structure?
Answer—The complete painting specs are provided in Section 6-07 of the WSDOT Standard
Specifications for Road, Bridge, and Municipal Construction, 2016, including amendments
through January 2017.
Question 7
On the bottom left corner of Sheet No. 14/Drawing C4.1 shows a 30" DI FLxPE spool on the CS
line. What bid item is 30"ductile iron pipe?
Answer—The small incidental spool of flanged ductile iron required to transition to a plain end
pipe can be considered part of Bid Item No. A80 "30-INCH DIAM. FLEXIBLE COUPLING
(DOUBLE BALL WITH EXP)"as it can be considered part of the"connection to adjacent pipes"
work.
Question 8
What kind of transitions are we supposed to use between the different piping materials?
Answer— Pipe type transition couplings between 30"C-905 PVC or 36"SWPSSP and Ductile
iron are not necessary as the pipe ODs of DI and C-905 PVC are the same, the plain end PVC
pipe will fit into the bell of the DI pipe and vice versa. The transition between the ductile iron
and PVC should have the same restraint system as the adjacent pipes, if any. 12"steel to 12"
DI should be made with a coupling that is designed for those two materials and should be
restrained where called out on the drawings. The contractor has the flexibility to use any
coupling system including flanges, restraint rings, etc. that can join the materials and provide
the restraint as called out on the drawings.
Question 9
On the 12", 30", &36"steel piping it looks like it shows it all being field welded. Can we use
flanges, grooved couplings, or something else to connect it all together instead of having the
contractor's field weld all of this piping?
Answer— For basis of bid, steel pipe should be assumed to be field or shop welded unless
otherwise noted in the drawings. Substitutions will be considered during the submittal/shop
drawing phase of construction.
Question 10
On Sheet No. 16/Drawing C4.3: detail 3, is the 18" riser pipe on the cleanout ductile iron or
something else? It also calls out for 20 — 1-1/4"bolts for the blind flange, but a 150# flange
has 16 — 1-1/8" bolts.
Answer—Cleanout detail is 3/C4.4. As called out on the detail, the riser pipe should be DI.
The number and type of bolts should match the standard flange bolt hole layout and thickness.
City of Everett Addendum No. 5
Grand Avenue Park Bridge Project Bid Page 2
Page 2
Provided to Builders Exchange of WA, Inc.
