to the opposite gender also, unless the context of such charter provision shall <br />require otherwise, the correction of scrivener, clerical and typographical errors, <br />references, Charter numbering, Section/subsection numbers and any references <br />thereto. <br />PROPOSITION #17 <br />Shall Everett City Charter Section 15.9 be changed to allow the City Clerk and Charter <br />codifier to make clerical, gender neutral, numbering and similar corrections in the codified version <br />of the charter? <br />CHARTER CHANGE <br />CHARTER CHANGE <br />Section 20: Deletion of Article XVII <br />reads as follows: <br />YES........... ❑ <br />Article XVII of the Everett City Charter which <br />ARTICLE XVII. TRANSITIONAL PROVISIONS AND SAVINGS PROVISIONS <br />Sec. 17.1. Interim Government — Transition Date to Mayor — Council Plan. <br />Upon the adoption of this charter, the city shall continue to be governed by the <br />provisions of the charter existing immediately prior to the adoption of this charter, until the <br />effective date hereinafter defined; provided, however, that the provisions of the charter <br />with reference to nominating and electing a mayor and councilmen shall be in force from <br />the time of the approval of this charter by the electors of the city. <br />At 12:00 noon, December 5, 1968, which shall be the effective date of the <br />commencement of the mayor council plan of government (herein referred to as "effective <br />date") all of the provisions of the previous charter shall be repealed and this entire charter <br />and the mayor -council plan of government as set forth in the preceding articles of this <br />charter shall become immediately effective. <br />Sec. 17.2. Election of First Officers — Assumption of Duties. <br />The election of the first officers for the mayor -council plan of government under this <br />charter shall be held at the time and in accordance with Article 2.3 of this charter, <br />preceded by a primary election to be held in accordance with state law. The officers so <br />elected and qualified shall enter upon the duties of the offices to which they were elected <br />at the effective date, and their entitlement to compensation shall commence at that time. <br />The government, departments, boards and offices existing prior to the adoption of this <br />charter shall continue until said effective date. <br />Sec. 17.3. Abolished Offices to Cease — Effective Date. <br />All bodies or offices abolished or dispensed with by this charter pursuant to the mayor - <br />council plan of government, together with emoluments thereof, shall immediately cease <br />to exist at the effective date, and any new offices created shall thereafter be filled in the <br />manner provided by this charter. The Civil Service Commission and Library Board shall <br />not be considered as having been abolished or dispensed with. <br />Those offices and boards which are to be considered abolished or dispensed with <br />under this provision include, but not by way of limitation, the Commission and Park Board <br />as provided in the previous charter. <br />All assets and liabilities of any abolished board shall vest in the city. <br />Sec. 17.4.
