Medisaprists, McKenna, and Norma soils are listed as hydric on the Hydric Soils List for
Washington State.
Hydrology Criteria
The Washington State Wetlands Identification and Delineation Manual, 1997 edition, states
that "areas which are seasonally inundated and/or saturated to the surface for a
consecutive number of days greater than or equal to 12.5 percent of the growing season are
wetlands, provided the soil and vegetation parameters are met. Areas inundated or
saturated between five and 12.5 percent of the growing season in most years may or may
not be wetlands. Areas saturated to the surface for less than five percent of the growing
season are non -wetlands." Field indicators are used for determining whether wetland
hydrology parameters are met.
BOUNDARY DETERMINATION FINDINGS
Wetland A (Northern Portion)
Vegetation: Red alder (Alnus rubra, Fac) and Western red cedar (Thuja plicata, Fac)
dominate the overstory of the wetland. The understory is dominated by a thick stand of
salmonberry (Rebus spectabilis, Fac+), Himalayan blackberry (Rubus armeniacus, FacU),
and trailing blackberry (Rubus ursinus, FacU).
The dominance of species rated "Facultative" and wetter meets the criteria for hydrophytic
vegetation.
Soils: The soils within the wetland were ponded at the surface at the time of inspection.
Sampled soils were found to be very dark gray (10YR 3/1) from 0 to 18 inches below the
surface, and sandy silt loam in texture. The wetland area, as mapped, appears to satisfy the
criteria for hydric soils.
Hydrology. Soils sampled in the wetland were moist with dark chromas, inferring the
presence of water at or near the surface for at least 12.5 percent of the growing season.
This satisfies wetland hydrology criteria.
Conclusion: The area that is mapped as wetland meets all three parameters for
classification as wetland according to the Washington State Wetlands Identification and
Delineation Manual, 1997 edition.
Wetland A (Southern Portion)
Vegetation: Red alder (Alnus rubra, Fac) and Western red cedar (Thuja plicata, Fac)
dominate the overstory of the wetland. The understory is dominated by a thick stand of
salmonberry (Rubus spectabilis, Fac+) and stinging nettle (Urtica dioica, Fac+).
The dominance of species rated "Facultative" and wetter meets the criteria for hydrophytic
vegetation.
Soils The soils within the wetland were ponded at the surface at the time of inspection.
Sampled soils were found to be dark gray (10YR 3/2) with distinct redoximorphic
Critical Area Study and Buffer Mitigation Plan WRI# 09084
Intermec- Lot 2 Revision#2: March 22, 2010
