Conclusion: The area that is mapped as wetland meets all three parameters for
classification as wetland according to the Washington State Wetlands Identification and
Delineation Manual, 1997 edition.
Wetland F
Vegetation: Red alder (Alnus rubra, Fac), Western red cedar (Thuja plicata, Fac), and
Western hemlock (Tsuga heterophylla, FacU-), dominate the overstory of the wetland. The
understory is dominated by a thick stand of salmonberry (Rubus spectabilis, Fac+), Indian
plum (Oemleria cerasiformis, FacU), vine maple (Acer circinatuln, Fac-), and skunk cabbage
(Lysichiton americanum, Obl).
The dominance of species rated "Facultative" and wetter meets the criteria for hydrophytic
vegetation.
Soils: The soils within the wetland were ponded at the surface at the time of inspection.
Sampled soils were found to be black (10YR 2/1) from 0 to 18 inches below the surface,
and a sandy loam in texture. The wetland area, as mapped, appears to satisfy the criteria for
hydric soils.
Hydrology. Soils sampled in the wetland were moist with dark chromas, inferring the
presence of water at or near the surface for at least 12.5 percent of the growing season.
This satisfies wetland hydrology criteria.
Conclusion: The area that is mapped as wetland meets all three parameters for
classification as wetland according to the Washington State Wetlands Identification and
Delineation Manual, 1997 edition.
Non -Wetland (General)
Vegetation: Red alder (Alnus rubra, Fac) and Western red cedar (Thuja plicata, Fac)
dominate the overstory of the non -wetland areas. The understory is typically dominated by a
thick stand of salmonberry (Rubus spectabilis, Fac+), Himalayan blackberry (Rubus
armeniacus, FacU), Indian plum (Oemleria cerasiformis, FacU), red elderberry (Sambucus
racemosa, FacU), false lily -of -the -valley (Maianthemum dilatatum, Fac), and Pacific bleeding
heart (Dicentra Formosa, FacU+).
The dominance of upland rated species does not meet the criteria for hydrophytic
vegetation.
Soils: The soils within the non -wetland areas were dry at the time of inspection. Sampled
soils were dark gray (10YR 3/2) from 0 to 4 inches below the surface and dark yellowish
brown (10YR 4/4) from 4 to 18 inches below the surface. The sampled soils had a gravelly
sandy loam texture. The non -wetland areas, as mapped, do not appear to satisfy the criteria
for hydric soils.
Hydrology. Soils sampled in the non -wetland areas were dry with light chromas, inferring the
lack of water at or near the surface for at least 12.5 percent of the growing season. This
does not satisfy wetland hydrology criteria.
Critical Area Study and Buffer Mitigation Plan 9 WRI# 09084
lntermec- Lot 2 Revision#2: March 22, 2010
