Waterfront Commercial Development <br /> Observation: Although one of the West Coast's largest marinas is located at the <br /> Everett waterfront, other commerical or recreation development is lacking. <br /> Suggestion: There is no reason why trade or industry and commercial recreation <br /> cannot co-exist on Everett's waterfront. <br /> Recommendation: Consideration of a commercial, recreational development <br /> project on the Everett waterfront. Location is critical; easy access off. I-5 is <br /> necessary. Proximity to CBD is desirable. Public-private partnership necessary. <br /> Mixed use development is advisable. Waterfront development must be utilitarian <br /> first class, entertaining, pleasant and generally enjoyable. <br /> Recommendation: Enhancement/beautification of Everett entryways, in particular, <br /> Hewitt Avenue from I-5 across Colby to the waterfront. <br /> Recommendation for location of waterfront commercial development - the foot of <br /> Hewitt Avenue at Pier 3. <br /> For the recommendation on waterfront development, international appearance, <br /> Pacific Rim orientation, outdoor ampitheater, outside street fair, permanent <br /> international pavilion with exhibition space, restaurants, shopping bazaar and Port <br /> offices. <br /> Further recommendation - waterfront development: Permanent entertainment <br /> complex themed to the mill history of Everett. <br /> Other recommendations: <br /> 1. Public open space. <br /> 2. Transient boat slips. <br /> 3. Public market. <br /> Necessary actions for waterfront development. <br /> 1. Cooperation of Port, City and private leadership as well as citizen groups. <br /> 2. Land availability. <br /> 3. Use of hotel/motel 2% tax monies. <br /> 4. Development ready by Summer, 1986 to coincide with Vancouver, B.C. <br /> World's Fair. <br />
