Improved Entrances to Central City Recommendation: City to extend off ramp for Pacific Avenue one block north to Hewitt. Hewitt is then established as a main entrance to the central city. Recommendation: Establish an introduction to the City on both Hewitt and Pacific; example -- the banner concept increasing in number and intensity as visitors near the central City. Different themes could be used for different sections of the City. Other alternatives could include tree plantings, tourist themes and other vehicles to enhance the front doors of the City. Projects should be paid for by the City and Port Districts. Port Facility Development Recommendation: The Port should aggressively continue their current efforts to acquire and improve the Weyerhaeuser properties south of the Port offices. Recommendation: The Weyerhaeuser facility should be utilized for activities that would require deep water necessary for large, deep draft vessels. Suggestions: Container facility, automobile imports, heavy manufacturing or assembly or vessel- related activities. Recommendation: Port should devote additional resources to marketing. Recommendation: A staff land use planner for the Port is warranted and should be implemented. Recommendation: The Port should take a close look at its competitive environment to ascertain if its pricing is competitive on a cost basis. Recommendation: Available land in the Port District not necessarily on the water should be acquired for back-up purposes. Recommendation: Aggressive expansion of Port property, both on and off the waterfront. Recommendation: Partnership with the City in planning and develop of waterfront property is another step in the right direction. Economic Development Marketing Everett can recognize and readily utilize its clean air attainment area classification. Recommendation: Similar marketing of Everett's clean and abundant water should be also be more fully utilized. Summary Recommendation: It should be noted that a key finding is that those most knowledgeable in the community are very unaware of the many environmental advantages possessed by the City and surrounding area. A continuing effort should be made to inform local residents of these positive improvements.
