Recommendation: A full range of information should be prepared for all the major
environmental plusses possessed by Everett. It should assembled in a manner that
can be used to inform the general community as well as potential job-creating
investors and those in regular contact with firms who might be interested in
Everett.
Recommendation: With regard to the negative development image of Everett and
Snohomish County, real movement on the priority list of projects discussed in this
report will speak much louder and more effectively than anything else. TPPG's
suggestion is that the City put our efforts in that corner. Moreover, the interest
and enthusiasm that Everett has for new opportunities and investment is, and will
continue to be, readily noticeable. TPPG suggests this interest continue and that
City government continue to be open, enthusiastic about new business development
both within and near Everett.
Observations:
1. High tech is good and everything else is dirty.
2. In reality, everything has high tech elements to it.
3. Everett and Snohomish County continue to be attracttive to traditional high
tech companies.
4. Most new jobs will be suitable for the presently unskilled but trainable
worker.
5. Most new jobs in the future will be what is called low tech.
Recommendation: The County, Airport and City should continue to use Snohomish
County EDC for marketing work rather than organizing or staffing separate
marketing functions.
Recommendation: Serious consideration be given to increasing financial support of
EDC.
Recommendation: A new piece of literature, which concentrates in a positive and
non defensive way in addressing the Everett image challenges should be prepared
perhaps by EDC.
Recommendation: EDC develop and lead a project to get the new materials into
the hands of people who could help Everett through both mail and personal contact.
Recommendation: Interaction and support between Snohomish County EDC and the
EDC of Puget Sound should continue and grow.
Recommendation: The best prospects for Everett will come from firms and
business categories or sectors which have had and/or are projected to have rapid
growth either in the nation or the state. Among those high growth firms of a
national nature include electronic components, industrial chemicals, materials
handling equipment, medical and dental instruments, typewriters and other office
equipment, electric lighting and wiring equipment, computers and peripheral
equipment, heating apparatus fixtures, plastics, construction mining and oil field
equipment, periodical bookprinting and publishing.
