Track II. Tourism and Cultural Development <br /> The City believes that Everett . . . and Snohomish County . . . can and should <br /> capitalize on the burgeoning tourist markets of Western Washington, Seattle, <br /> British Columbia, Alaska and the Pacific Rim countries. <br /> The City seeks to develop its commercial recreation, cultural and entertainment <br /> resources to emerge as a destination point and gateway to other attractions of the <br /> Pacific Northwest. Moreover, the City desires to establish a reputation a a cordial, <br /> comfortable and competent convention and visitor host. <br /> A. The City supports the aggressive community-wide effort toward the <br /> realization of The Henry M. Jackson Center. The complex will include <br /> facilities commemorating the life and career of Senator Jackson. <br /> B. The City will work with the Port of Everett to further cultural, commercial <br /> recreation, restaurant, and entertainment development along the <br /> Harborfront. The City encourages the development of service and retail <br /> business in and around Everett Marina, and at other Harborfront and <br /> riverfront sites conducive to commercial activity. <br /> C. The City also looks to its riverfront as a rare opportunity to historically <br /> redevelop and introduce new and diverse uses, thus providing an interesting <br /> and inviting entryway to the City. <br /> D. The City will work with the Boeing Company, Chamber of Commerce and <br /> other interested parties to enhance, expand and promote the 767/747 tours . . <br /> . the City's biggest and most notable tourist attraction. <br /> E. The City will support and participate in the solicitation and servicing of <br /> convention groups believing that the introduction of visitors to the <br /> community bolsters the service, retail and entertainment industries, improves <br /> the image of the City and is environmentally preferable. <br /> F. The City supports enhancement of recreation within the City and in <br /> Snohomish County. Harbor tours, river float trips, delta excursions and <br /> similar attractions should be investigated, encouraged and supported. <br /> G. The City will pursue access alternatives to Jetty Island for recreation and <br /> industrial uses. <br /> H. The City will pursue the establishment of a historical museum portraying the <br /> community's rich history, the legacy of the rail and timber industries and <br /> innumerable treasures offered to the City by its citizens. <br /> I. The City will investigate the proposals of Thoresen-Peterson Planning Group <br /> for Pacific Rim cultural exchanges, displays and festival activities at the <br /> Harborfront. <br /> J. Partnership: City - Henry M. Jackson Foundation, Chamber of Commerce, <br /> Port, Historical Society, Boeing Company. <br />
