January 1983 - Mayor's core group agrees on major elements of the phase two <br /> downtown redevelopment program. Major program elements <br /> include: <br /> 1. Construction of a City sponsored, large scale civic <br /> center complex in the CBD to include: (a) performing <br /> arts theater/community hall (b) public meeting rooms; (c) <br /> public plaza; (d) large multi-purpose museum and art <br /> gallery; (f) expanded library and; (e) Senator Jackson <br /> offices, library and Sino-Soviet Studies Center. <br /> 2. Attraction of a major office/retail/hotel project to the <br /> downtown core. <br /> 3. Work with the Port to create a major <br /> office/retail/restaurant project on the central <br /> waterfront adjacent to the CBD and the Civic Center. <br /> 4. Work aggressively to encourage rehabilitation of <br /> attractive historic structures in the CBD, with special <br /> emphasis on the Monte Cristo Hotel. <br /> January 1983 - Mayor and core group agree to accelerate implementation of <br /> phase two by: (a) initially retaining a downtown development <br /> promoter and coordinator on a personal services contract to <br /> assist in initiating the phase two program and; (b) ultimately <br /> hiring a permanent downtown coordinator to carry our detailed <br /> program activities and provide staffing for a future public <br /> development corporation. <br /> City staff tours Baltimore's Inner Harbor - Harbor Place <br /> redevelopment project and discusses waterfront revitalization <br /> techniques with Baltimore Planning Director. <br /> March 1983 - Everett Community Profile published which contains extensive <br /> information and baseline data on the economic characteristics <br /> of the City. <br /> April 1983 - The City, Port, and State Department of Transportation reach <br /> agreement to carry out a $100,000 program to add and revamp <br /> Everett identification signs along Interstate 5. <br /> May 1983 - Bid to be awarded for $28 million dollar Southwest Everett <br /> Sewer Interceptor Project. <br /> May 1983 - Southwest Everett Area promotional brochure to be published <br /> by the City. <br />
