TPPG Recommendations
1. A need for an education process regarding the community especially with
public and private leaders in the Puget Sound region.
2. Commitment to generate an aggressive posture which causes attention to be
focused on Everett.
Projects, Assignments and Priorities
Recommendation: Better to concentrate on a limited but carefully integrated set
of high priority tasks than spread ourselves too thin on many tasks. Study guidelines
recom mend:
1. Everett should share in Puget Sound growth. Quantitatively as well as
qualitatively.
2. Everett should retain its unique identity.
3. Projects and programs should focus on key areas rather than single project or
multitudes of projects. Projects should be diverse yet manageable.
4. Some effort should begin immediately; others will need more preparation.
5. Some projects should be relatively easy to build confidence while others will
be more difficult.
The study suggests from purely industrial development to information, services and
recreation development in the United States and the Pacific Northwest; and the
study goes on to suggest this shift seems valid for the City of Everett as well. The
study emphasizes that continued support for industry is essential and should be
upgraded as well.
Finally, the study recommends that economic development in the City of Everett
will require a new sense of partnership between the public and private sectors and
the Port and the City.
The eleven development tasks outlined by the study include:
1. Establishment of a development corporation.
2. Waterfront development.
3. Everett Center.
4. Downtown development.
5. Port development.
6. Industrial marketing and development.
7. Paine Field future.
