semi-jagged to jagged edges and no paint along the inside surfaces. There was no evidence of any significant movement
or racking due to the tree strike as would be indicated by new door trim joint gaps or additional GWB or GCB damage
above the door.
Regarding repairs, the GCB and original 1x4 tongue-and-groove bead board ceiling finishes will need to be removed to
expose (2) rafter bays so the repairs can be completed. There is no interior attic access and the only access is through a
gable end vent at the north side of the attic. The damaged rafter ties can be replaced by a 2x4 collar tie and 2x4 vertical
brace, both fastened to the existing rafter using a minimum of(4) 0.1480 p-nails. The vertical brace can be installed at
the opposite side of the collar tie to avoid nail congestion and the vertical brace shall be fastened to the existing ceiling
joist using a minimum of(2) 0.148x3 p-nails.
3/" PWD sheathing should be installed to replace the damaged skip board sheathing over the 3rd and 4th rafters, with
minimum nailing per code, with matching OSB installed over the PWD to match. W PWD sheathing should also be
installed to replace the damaged bead board ceiling finishes. The original bead board ceiling finishes help strengthen
the 2x4 ceiling joists and allow them to span over the length of the family room without any significant sagging or
deflection. %" PWD should also be installed to replace the damaged shiplap sheathing at the main floor, between the
(2) adjacent floor joists each side of the impact damage location.
The diagonal GWB cracks above the west side of the master bedroom door can be repaired by isolated replacement of
the GWB, with texture and paint to match. Cosmetic repairs could be attempted, but if not done properly the cracks will
likely return.
A damage inspection permit is required so the City of Everett can verify extent of damage to determine permit submittal
requirements. Permit submittal requirements will likely include an over-the-counter permit in lieu of repair plans. BCIE
can assist with the permit process or provide repair details to assist the contractor.
Let me know if I can be of further assistance and if this email is sufficient in lieu of a written report.
