SECTION 02606- UNTREATED BASE COURSE PART 1 —GENERAL 1.01 DESCRIPTION A. The work of this section consists of obtaining material from a commercial stockpile source, hauling and placing one or more courses of aggregate and filler sub-base if required, on a prepared sub-grade. ' 1.02 SUBMITTALS ' A. Material shall be obtained from a commercial owned gravel source unless directed otherwise. 1.03 COMMERCIAL SOURCE A. Material shall be obtained from a commercial source. Contractor must submit certification from the supplier certifying that aggregate material meets the requirements of this specification. ' PART 2— MATERIALS 2.01 UNTREATED BASE COURSE A. Clean, hard, durable fragments or particles of crushed stone, crushed slag, or crushed or ' natural gravel. Materials that break up due to freeze-thaw or wet-dry cycling shall not be used. 1. Course Aggregate AASHTO T96, percentage of wear of not more than 50. 2. Fraction passing No. 40 sieve shall have a liquid limit not to exceed 25 and a plasticity index of not more than 6, as determined by AASHTO T89 and T90, respectively. 3. Material, inclusive of filler, shall meet following screen analysis requirements by ' weight: Sieve Designation Percent Passing ' 3/4 inch 100 3/8 inch 77-92 No. 4 55-67 No. 16 28-38 No. 200 7-11 2.02 FILLER ' A. Finely divided mineral matter such as rock or slag dust, hydrated lime, hydraulic cement, or other suitable mineral matter free from organic impurities and clay. ' 2.03 WATER A. See Section 02233. PART 3— EXECUTION ' 3.01 PLACING A. If the required compacted depth of the untreated base course and/or sub-base exceeds 6 ' inches, it shall be constructed in two or more layers of approximately equal thickness.
