An accessory dwelling unit is a secondary dwelling located on the same
lot as a principal dwelling. Shortly after the Council action, a citizen brought to staff's attention that the
code did not provide any flexibility concerning the size of an ADU to address circumstances where the
design of an existing building may make it difficult to meet the size limits of the code without creating an
illogical floor plan. The Planning Commission held a public hearing on April 4, 2017, and recommends
approval of the proposed amendment.
RECOMMENDATION(Exact action requested of Council):
Adopt an Ordinance Amending the Zoning Regulations for Accessory Dwelling Units, Section 7(J) of
Ordinance No. 3534-17 (EMC 19.07.030.7).
9
