3
located on the southern and western portiona of the property
and an open ahrubland, found on the northeestern portion of
the property.
The forested area runa along the western and aouthern
portione of the property and includea a woodad hillside and
the site of a former house and ita associated qrounda as
evidenced by aerial photos. The dominant plant spacies in
this area were red alder (BjIIyg yyb2$, FAC) treea, Himalayan
blackberry ($yLiy@ diacolor, FACU-) , salmonberry ($yyg
eoectabilis, FACW) , willow (Salig spp, , FAC-OBL) ,
thimbleberry (gyg parviflorug, FACU+) and sword-fern
(Polytichum ,, UPL) . There were scattered tall
Dcuqlas fir (Paeudotsuaa menziesii, UPL) , and a few weatern
red cedar (Thuia nlicata, FACj . As seen in Tablea 8.2, and
B.3 (Appendix B) , 50 gercent of the dominant species were
rated FAC or wetter, which filfilla the federal definition
of hydrophytic species; however, the WIlI was 3.4 and 3.5,
which indicates a qood probability that the site is an
upland. As epecified in Fiqure A. 1, additional data
regardinq the soils and hydroloqy were deeirable.
The shrubland is located on a nearly flat portion of the
property which had been scarified somatime prior to 1965, as
evidenced by aerial photos. A ditch runs diagonally
(southeast to northwest) acrosa the northeaet corner of the
property. The shrubland area was dominated by hardhack
spirea (Sniraea menzieaii, FACW) , willow (FAC-OBL) , and soft
gh (LNIISt@ gfY@&, FACW) Other scattered speciea
included tall feacue (Festuca arundinacea, FACU-) , horsetail
(Eauiaetum spp. , FAC-OBL) , read canaryqrase (Phelaris
arundinacea, FACW) , common vnlvet-qrase (Holcy$ lanatus,
FAC) , sweetqrass (Hierochloe odorata, FACW) , alonq with
scattered Douqlas fir (UPL) trees and saplinqs, and biq-leaf
maple (Acer macroohvllum, FACU) trees. Although upland
species were interminqled throughout this area, tho dominant
species were rated FAC or wetter. As seen in Table 8.4, 100
percent of the dominant plants were rated FAC or wetter, and
the weiqhted mean index was 2.5. Based on the predominance
of hydrophytic plant speciea, this portion of the proparty
wae determined to conform to the quidelines for wetland
vegetation as defined by the federal delineation manual,
however, as indicated in Fiqure A. 1, additional data
regarding soils and/or hydrology were deairable.
Several small, linear areas at the edqe of the shrubland had
signs of eurface pondinq and were investiqated. The field
survey data is shown in Table B.S. Willowa (FAC-OBL)
dominated, with a qround cover of horsetnil (FAC-OBL)
coverinq between 25 to 50 percent of the area. Reed
canaryqrass (FACW) and a species of graes (unidentifiable
due to lack of floral parts, not rated) covered between 5
and 25 percent of the area. Other areas were unvegetated.
All (100 percent) of the dominant plant species wera rated
