Theae
opticne are deacribed below and include 1) apread footinge and
extended footinge; 2) concrete or rock trenches ; or 3) drilled
piera.
8_1 9pread Footinoe
In areas where the bearinq atratum is relatively ahallow, epread
footings may be uaed for building eiipport When founded on medium
dense or dense, natural, in-place aedimente. An allowable bearinq
preseure of 2, 500 pounde per square foot (psf) , including both dead
and live loade , may be utilized for deeign purposes on the medium
denae ablation depoeita (Unit 31 , and lodgement till (Unit 2) . An
increase of one-third may be ueed for ehort-term wind or seiemic
loading. Perimeter footings ehould be buried at least 18 inches
into the surrounding eoil for froat protection. Interior footinge
need only extend 12 inchea below adjacent qrade . However, all
footinge muet penetrate to the preacribed bearing etratum and no
footing ahould be founded in or above loose, organic, or exieting
fill soils. In addition, all footinqe ahould have a minimun width
of 18 inchea.
Anticipated aettlement of footinge founded on the medium denee or
dense aedimenta should be on the order of 1 inch . However,
diaturbed soil not removed from footing excavations prior to footing
placement could result in increased eettlemente. all footing areae
ahould be inepected by Asaociated Earth Sciences , Inc. prior to
placing concrete to verify that the bearing eoils are undiaturbed
and consiatent with the recommendatione contained in thie report.
Such inapectione may be required by the governing municipality.
Perimeter footing draine ehould be provided ae discuased under
section 9.0, Drainage Consideratione.
8_2 Concrete or Rock Trenchee
in the more central portione of the aite where the fill appeare to
be thicker (up to B feet encountered thickneesl , alternative
fouc, datian deaigne may be more coat effective. Two of the more
commun rt:ethode are lean mix concrete or rock trenches. If the lean
mix concrete option is chosen, the excavation ehould have a minimal
width equal to the proposed footinq width and the concrete should be
a minimum 2-1/2 eack mix.
