missing, also in the covered walkway to the front door.
5) Repair/Rep/ace - One or more downspouts are missing and the end caps are missing on the gutters .
Also, coupling sections should be used where gutter sections abut each other. All of these conditions can
result in leaks and/or water accumulating around the structure's foundation. Accumulated water is a
conducive condition to wood destroying insects and organisms, and may also cause the foundation to
settle and possibly fail over time. A qualified contractor should install downspouts, end caps, and slices
where missing. Also, I recommend installing splash blocks or tie-ins to underground drain lines as
necessary to carry rainwater away from the house.
Photo 3 Photo 4
No end caps or downspouts. Improper splice in the gutters.
6) Repair/Rep/ace - Siding is incomplete or missing on the south side of the home. A qualified person or
contractor should install siding where missing to prevent water and vermin intrusion.
7) Repair/Replace - One or more soffit vent screens are missing . Birds and vermin may enter the attic
because of this. Screens should be replaced or repaired where necessary, or installed where missing.
Photo 2
There is a gap (which can't be seen in the picture) in the soffit area. A continuous vent should be
installed and the attic insulation pushed back for proper venting.
8) Repair/Replace - One or more wooden deck support posts are in contact with soil. This is a conducive
condition for wood destroying insects and organisms. However, no damage from wood destroying insects
or organisms was found. Standard building practices require that there be at least 6" of space between
any wood and the soil below, even if the wood is treated. If possible, soil should be removed or graded so
a 6" clearance is maintained. Otherwise, I recommend installing borate based Impel rods to prevent rot.
For more information, visit:
http://www.google.com/search?q=impel+rods
6 P
