Photo 1 Photo 8
9) Repair/Replace - Some of the support posts for the deck do not have a proper post to beam support
installed. I recommend installing pressure treated 2x4's to tie the post and beam together. When using
pressure treated material all the nails need to be galvanized, or if screws are used, they need to be
stainless steel.
P711-
Photo 6 Photo 7
10) Repair/Maintain, Monitor - The rim joist for the deck is not pressure treated and is susceptible to
future rot. This rim joist can be replaced or treated with a preservative and then monitored.
Photo 5
11) Repair/Maintain - Soil is in contact with or less than six inches from siding and/or trim in some
areas of the home. This is a conducive condition for wood destroying insects and organisms. Soil should
be graded and/or removed as necessary so there are at least six inches of space between the siding/trim
and the soil below. If removing the soil is not possible, then remove the bottom section of siding and
install cement board so there is no wood to earth contact. This work should be done by a qualified person.
7
