• <br /> • <br /> 1 ORDINANCE NO. / 759— 90 <br /> 2 <br /> 3 AN ORDINANCE establishing requirements for automatic fire <br /> detection and fire suppression systems in buildings. <br /> 4 <br /> 5 WHEREAS, the City Council finds that automatic fire detection systems <br /> 6 and automatic fire suppression systems are now technologically and <br /> 7 economically viable and can help to reduce the loss of life and property due <br /> 8 to fire and are therefore reasonably necessary in order to protect the <br /> 9 public health, safety and welfare; and <br /> 10 WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the installation of automatic fire <br /> 11 detection systems and automatic fire suppression systems can help the <br /> 12 firefighting capabilities of the Everett Fire Department with its manpower <br /> 13 and equipment constraints and provide a rational basis for planning public <br /> 14 fire protection expenditures by defining the balance between traditional <br /> 15 fire protection resources to be supplied by the public and those supplied by <br /> 16 the private sector while at the same time reducing the costs of traditional <br /> 17 fire protection and its related expenditures such as larger water mains, <br /> 18 fire apparatus turn-arounds and fire hydrants in newly developed areas; and <br /> 19 WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the installation of automatic fire <br /> 20 detection systems and automatic fire suppression systems should help cause a <br /> 21 reduction in insurance premiums; and <br /> 22 WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it is in the best interest of the <br /> 23 health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Everett to adopt an ordinance <br /> 24 establishing requirements for automatic fire detection systems and fire <br /> 25 suppression systems in buildings; <br /> 26 NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: <br /> 27 Section 1 : Title. <br /> 28 This ordinance shall be known as and may be cited as the "Automatic <br /> 29 Fire Detection and Suppression Systems Ordinance." <br /> 30 Section 2: Definitions. <br /> 31 For purposes of this ordinance, words and phrases used in this <br /> 32 ordinance shall mean as follows: <br />
