1 ORDINANCE NO. / '-9O 2 3 AN ORDINANCE establishing a Commission on Children and Youth and repealing Ordinance No. 634-79. 4 5 WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the City of Everett recognizes our 6 City' s children and youth as one of the community' s most valuable and 7 treasured resources; and 8 WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the City of Everett is committed 9 to maintaining and improving Everett's quality of life for our children and 10 youth; and 11 WHEREAS, the City Council finds that today's youth of the City are 12 tomorrow's leaders, and such a valuable resource cannot be overemphasized 13 nor their specific needs overlooked; and 14 WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the City has previously had a 15 Youth Advisory Committee which provided youth with a forum for expressing 16 their views, providing advise and assisting the Mayor and City Council ; and 17 WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the City needs to explore new 18 models for better integrating children and youth in the life of our City; and 19 WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the City needs to establish a 20 Commission on Children and Youth in order to comprehensively address the 21 needs of our children and youth with one facet of the Commission assuming 22 the function of the previously established Youth Advisory Committee; 23 NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: 24 Section 1 : Purpose. 25 There is hereby established an Everett Commission on Children and Youth 26 (referred to herein as the "Commission") , that will function in an advisory 27 capacity to the Mayor' s Office. The Commission will advise and make 28 recommendations to the Mayor's Office on goals and policies as they relate 29 to children and youth of the City of Everett. The Commission is duly 30 created and approved for purposes of Chapter 2.76 EMC. The Commission will 31 consider issues on which the Mayor requests advice.
