*
a r:
ansitzons 'Team
People Solutions.. ..Business Results
PROPOSAL FOR SERVICES
For The City of Everett Fire Department — August, 2017
Consultant: Kathy Jinguji
Primary Contacts:
Fire Chief—Tim Key
Assistant Chief—Jim Nagle
Four Battalion Chiefs
The issues:
Lack of cohesiveness and spirit of camaraderie on the team. Key drives of current situation include:
1. Lack of acceptance for the new Assistant Chief by Battalion Chiefs likely driven by:
a. Jim Nagle's communication style.
b. Jim's "lead collaboratively" purported style not matching his "I'm in charge" talk and behavior.
c. Jim's appointment being a skip-level promotion (although none of the Battalion Chiefs were
interested in the position).
2. Tim Key has only been in the position since June 1st and follows Chief Hicks who had a short tenure
of only four months.
a. While Tim is confident that he has a handle on things, he acknowledges that the amount of
recent change and associated upheaval are worthy of some assessment of overall group
dynamics and perhaps some team building activities to help assimilate the new Chief and
Assistant Chief.
The Goals:
1. Improved communication style and associated leadership behaviors for Jim Nagle.
2. A smooth transition and acceptance of new leadership for the group.
3. Ownership of the part each member of the team plays in building cohesion and camaraderie.
Proposed Plan of Action Estimated Hours & Fee
Initial intake meeting with Chief Key by phone Completed on 8-15-2017
1 hour— No charge
On First Visit to Everett:
t+ Meet with Jim Nagle to assess and build coaching plan Scheduled for August 18th, 10:30am
1.5 Hour Meeting - $300.00
1
