1 ORDINANCE NO./6-4,41-g, <br /> 2 <br /> 3 AN ORDINANCE authorizing a trial program for utilization of <br /> traffic control devices called speed humps. <br /> 4 <br /> 5 <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council finds that speeding traffic and high volumes <br /> 6 <br /> of through traffic are encountered on some residential streets in the City; <br /> 7 <br /> and <br /> 8 <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the public is demanding a <br /> 9 <br /> definitive solution to these hazards on their residential streets; and <br /> 10 <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council finds that many communities have adopted and <br /> 11 <br /> implemented traffic management tools called "speed humps" which are designed <br /> 12 <br /> to maintain traffic speeds at established speed limits; and <br /> 13 <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the City's Traffic Engineer should <br /> 14 <br /> implement a program for the installation of speed humps in accordance with <br /> 15 <br /> this ordinance; <br /> 16 <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: <br /> 17 <br /> Section 1 : The City's Traffic Engineer is hereby authorized to install <br /> 18 <br /> speed humps on a limited number of residential streets for a limited period <br /> 19 <br /> of time for the purpose of evaluating their effectiveness as a means of <br /> 20 <br /> controlling speeding traffic and high volumes of traffic on City residential <br /> 21 <br /> streets. At such time as the City's Traffic Engineer has collected <br /> 22 <br /> sufficient information to evaluate the effectiveness of these speed humps, <br /> 23 <br /> the Traffic Engineer shall report his findings to the City's Traffic <br /> 24 <br /> Advisory Committee and to the Everett City Council . <br /> 25 <br /> Section 2: Speed humps (undulations) should be installed in accordance <br /> 26 <br /> with the following standards: <br /> 27 <br /> 28 A. The length of installation should be twelve (12) feet from <br /> the beginning of rise from the pavement surface to return <br /> 29 to the pavement surface; <br /> 30 <br /> 31 <br /> 32 <br />
