1 ORDINANCE NO./6-4,41-g, 2 3 AN ORDINANCE authorizing a trial program for utilization of traffic control devices called speed humps. 4 5 WHEREAS, the City Council finds that speeding traffic and high volumes 6 of through traffic are encountered on some residential streets in the City; 7 and 8 WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the public is demanding a 9 definitive solution to these hazards on their residential streets; and 10 WHEREAS, the City Council finds that many communities have adopted and 11 implemented traffic management tools called "speed humps" which are designed 12 to maintain traffic speeds at established speed limits; and 13 WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the City's Traffic Engineer should 14 implement a program for the installation of speed humps in accordance with 15 this ordinance; 16 NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: 17 Section 1 : The City's Traffic Engineer is hereby authorized to install 18 speed humps on a limited number of residential streets for a limited period 19 of time for the purpose of evaluating their effectiveness as a means of 20 controlling speeding traffic and high volumes of traffic on City residential 21 streets. At such time as the City's Traffic Engineer has collected 22 sufficient information to evaluate the effectiveness of these speed humps, 23 the Traffic Engineer shall report his findings to the City's Traffic 24 Advisory Committee and to the Everett City Council . 25 Section 2: Speed humps (undulations) should be installed in accordance 26 with the following standards: 27 28 A.
