The purpose of this letter is to report the observed damaged to the exisHng structure,
and to provide conshucHon details(Pigums 1 through 5) for temporarily shoring the existing
structure as required to replace the damaged structural members.
The rooE over the existing pool building is framed with six, exposed, arched, glulam bcams
spanning in the north-souUi direc6on. At the south exterior wall, each beam bears on a pipe
column buried in a CMU wall. The beams span conHnuously over the south exterior wall and
connect to a concrete buttress located outside[he building. The north end of each glulam beam
frames in to an interior CMU wall. The remainder of the roof framing consists of 2x6 T&G
decking over bx14 purlins spanning behveen the glulam beams. The exterior walls consist of
CMU,contmte stem walls, and plas6c wall panels. A large porHon of the east exterior wall
consists of the plastic wall panels. The panels are held in place by vertical aluminum window
mullions at approximately 4-foot tenters. Each mullion is attached to an exterior, exposed, tube
steel column designed to resist horizontal wind Ioads. A glulam beam spans over the top of
these tube sleel columns. The tube steel columns are attached lo the underside of the beam and
bear on top of a concrete stem wall.
The follo«ing conditions were nomd:
• The exposed exterior portion of each glulam beam appears to be cracking, delaminaling,
and/or rotfing in several locations. The damage is eslensive in several Ueams and may
compromise their structural integrity.
• The glulam beam at the east end of the pool building appears to be cracked, rotted, and
delaminating in various locations along its entire length.
• At the east end of the pool building, several of the tube steel columns below the glulam
beam appear to be buckling and bowing towards the east. The connecHon of one of the
aluminum mullionso the tube steel column has partially failed.
• The base plate for Uie buried pipe column in the southeast wmer of the Uuilding is
exposed on the east side and does not appear to be bearing fully on the concrete stem
wall.
• Portions of Uo[h tlie south and east exterior CMUalls appear to be cracked, especially
in areas where the Uuried pipe columns are located.
_, << ._ , , __ . ,o f
`L3
