s,4b <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 7195 <br /> A RESOLUTION honoring Mayor Ray Stephanson a <br /> for his extensive service and contributions <br /> to the City of Everett <br /> WHEREAS, Mayor Ray Stephanson has served more than 14 years as the Mayor <br /> of Everett, earning the distinction of being the city's longest-serving mayor and leaving <br /> a legacy of diverse accomplishments for our community; and <br /> WHEREAS, Mayor Stephanson served the city of Everett in many ways before <br /> becoming mayor, including as a planning commissioner, City Council member and <br /> executive director in Mayor Ed Hansen's administration; and <br /> WHEREAS, Mayor Stephenson's leadership extends well beyond the city limits; <br /> and he has helped guide many regional and state associations and efforts, including <br /> Governor Gregoire's higher education funding task force and Governor Inslee's 777X <br /> Permit Streamlining Task Force; and <br /> WHEREAS, Mayor Stephanson helped preserve and expand the economic <br /> foundation of our community through his support of aerospace, advanced manufacturing <br /> and maritime industries, and his advocacy for effective transportation networks, where <br /> he played a critical role in bringing commercial air service and light rail to Everett; and <br /> WHEREAS, Mayor Stephanson has been a champion for Naval Station Everett <br /> throughout his time as council member and mayor, and has made annual trips to the <br /> Pentagon to ensure the base's continued success; and <br /> WHEREAS, Mayor Stephanson has thoughtfully shepherded the City through <br /> many difficult challenges, including the great recession, which the City endured without <br /> layoffs or major cuts to service; and <br /> WHEREAS, Mayor Stephanson has worked closely with our neighborhood <br /> associations and community groups throughout his tenure, and believes in the power of <br /> inclusive, community-based government; and <br /> WHEREAS, Mayor Stephanson has protected and invested in the places and <br /> programs that contribute to our quality of life, including expanding our parks and open <br /> spaces and providing free music and cultural events for our residents; and <br />
