WHEREAS, many local landmarks took shape during Mayor Stephanson's career with the help of his vision and community building, including the Schack Art Center, the Everett Municipal Court building, the expanded Providence Regional Medical Center, Imagine Children's Museum, and the downtown Funko headquarters; and WHEREAS, Mayor Stephanson's greatest gift to this community may be his vision for expanded higher education opportunities in our region and his unwavering and courageous commitment to that goal, which helped bring Washington State University to Everett; and WHEREAS, public safety has been Mayor Stephanson's top priority throughout his career and under his direction the City developed the Community Streets Initiative and the Safe Streets plan to address homelessness, mental illness and addiction; and WHEREAS, Mayor Stephanson is the epitome of a true leader, demonstrating courage during difficult times, focusing on what is right for our community, and being an tireless advocate for our residents and businesses; and WHEREAS, Mayor Stephanson's love for Everett, where he was born and raised, has guided everything he has done as mayor, and his many and diverse contributions will serve our community well into the future; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Everett hereby joins the citizens of Everett and our region in expressing their sincere appreciation to Mayor Ray Stephanson for his decades of outstanding service and lasting contributions to our community. We wish Mayor Stephanson and his family many years of relaxation and an enjoyable retirement. Passed and adopted this 20th day of December 2017. / 9,(4-6) A .
