We understand that your recent visit to our front counter may have created a lack of understanding among
some of our more recently hired staff members. We apologize if that may have occurred.
Please be assured that the City's consideration for the use of the accessory building remains the same as
indicated in the June 27, 2011 letter sent to you by Kirk Brooks (Attached for reference).
Earlier this year the City Council amended the zoning code to allow detached accessory dwelling units in single
family zones. The structure on the rear portion of your lot qualifies as a detached accessory dwelling unit, and
occupancy by you or your son meets the code requirement for one of the dwelling units on the property to be
owner-occupied. Rather than asking you to apply for the standard permit for a detached accessory dwelling
unit, the Planning Director has asked Planning Department staff who work at the building permit counter to
issue a letter approving the existing detached accessory building as a detached accessory dwelling unit in
compliance with the recently amended code. Based upon his inspection of the building with Kirk Brooks in
2011, he confirms that the building meets the spirit of the recently amended zoning code regulations.
Please retain this letter for reference in case clarification is needed in the future. The Planning Department will
issue a separate letter as described in the preceding paragraph in the very near future.
Sincerely,
Tony Lee
Building Official
From: Lynn Claughton [mailto:Iclaughton@yahoo.com]
Sent: Tuesday, December 12, 2017 1:20 AM
To: Kirk Brooks
Cc: Linda Claughton; Lynn Claughton
Subject: Re: FW: 1502 Pine Street/ Claughton Letter to Mayor Stephanson
Dear Kirk Brooks and Tony Lee,
C;774)
