• •
From: Jane Zimmerman [mailto:JZimmerman@everettwa.gov]
Sent: Tuesday, June 30, 2015 10:54 AM
To: Eric Peterson
Cc: Kimberly McNabb; Dave Voigt; Kirk Brooks
Subject: RE: WSU design review meeting
Hi Eric—
Yes, it seems reasonable to assume that the area is impervious for the reasons you state below. However, the discharge
location for the runoff from the new parking lot might be an issue with respect to flow capacity. I don't know how the
runoff from the rooftops was previously handled, but the College has experienced flooding in the past by changing the
discharge point for their runoff, even when they didn't change the amount of impervious area. In fact, the 1998 line at
the south end of your area of interest was constructed to keep stormwater separate from the combined sewer for as far
downstream as possible for just that reason...
I think the City would much prefer that you discharge to the storm drain at the south end of the area, rather than the
sewer main at the north end of the area. However, the 1998 line may or may not have been sized to handle the runoff
from the previous buildings. I'm pretty sure the City will have the design report for that storm drainage system
microfilmed somewhere, but I don't have the time to search for it myself. However, if you ask at the building counter at
3200 Cedar St,they could show you where such files are located so you could search for yourself under the college's
address of 2000 Tower St. I took a quick look through the microfilmed plans that I have access to at my desk and it looks
like the work was done in association with the EvCC Instructional Technology Center, which came through for City
review in 1997.
I'm also copying Dave Voigt on this email—he's the City's expert on the combined sanitary-storm sewer system and all
its issues. I'm also copying Kirk Brooks—IF I remember correctly, Kirk was the City's Development Technician for that
project.
Thank you,
Jane
Jane Zimmerman, Sr. Engineer
City of Everett Public Works Department
phone: 425-257-8885 fax: 425-257-8882
e-mail:/zimmerman(c.everettwa.gov
/ 2
