I <br /> a. Install the nonwoven geotextile ahead of placement of the trench stabilization <br /> material, continuously along the excavation bottom and centered on the pipe <br /> centerline. <br /> b. Use nonwoven geotextile width equal to the pipe diameter plus 2 feet. <br /> c. Place laps or splices in the geotextile in the direction of the pipe laying. <br /> J. Trim excavation. Hand trim for bell and spigot pipe joints. Remove loose matter. <br /> K. Excavated material shall be placed at locations and in such a manner that it does not create a <br /> hazard to pedestrian or vehicular traffic, or interfere with the function of existing drainage <br /> facilities or system operation. <br /> L. Remove excess subsoil not intended for reuse from site. <br /> M. Stockpile excavated material in area designated on site in accordance with Section 31 05 13, <br /> Soils for Earthwork. <br /> 3.8 TUNNELING <br /> A. In lieu of open cut trenching as specified above,the Contractor may utilize tunnel methods <br /> for installation of pipe where ground conditions are favorable and such methods will not <br /> disturb foundations under curbs, sidewalks and other structures. <br /> 1 1. The Engineer must approve tunneling methods prior to utility installation. <br /> 2. Where tunneling is used,payment for the pipe installation will be made for the equivalent <br /> trench excavation and backfill as if the open cut method was used. Payment will not be <br /> made for surface restoration including pavement, curbs, sidewalks and other surface <br /> improvements whose replacement is avoided by the tunneling method. <br /> 3.9 COMPACTION <br /> A. Testing will be required to show specified densities of compacted backfill are being achieved <br /> by the Contractor's compaction methods. <br /> B. Moisture Control: <br /> 1. Moisture condition backfill material to within 2 percent of optimum moisture content <br /> required for compaction throughout each lift of the fill. <br /> 2. Add moisture to granular backfill by sprinkling during compaction operation. <br /> 3. Compaction by ponding or jetting is not permitted. <br /> C. Compact all materials and areas that are not accessible for in-place density testing, as <br /> determined by the Engineer,in place by whatever equipment and method is practicable or <br /> specified, and as approved by the Engineer. <br /> I <br /> Legion Golf Course Stormwater Detention Project Trenching <br /> WO#UP3620 31 23 17- 15 <br />
