I <br /> 5. If over digging occurs,the trench bottom shall be filled to grade with compacted bedding <br /> material. <br /> G. Remove water or materials that interfere with Work. <br /> 1. The trench at all times shall be kept free from water to facilitate fine grading, the proper <br /> laying and joining of pipe, and prevention of damage to completed joints. <br /> 2. Adequate pumping equipment shall be provided to handle and dispose of the water <br /> without damage to adjacent property. <br /> 3. Water in the trench shall not be allowed to flow through the pipe while construction work <br /> is in progress unless special permission to do so has been given by the Engineer. I <br /> 4. An adequate screen shall be provided to prevent the entrance of objectionable material <br /> into the pipe. <br /> 5. Remove and dispose of existing abandoned sewer pipe, structures,and other facilities as <br /> necessary to construct the improvements. <br /> a. Where the excavation activities require the removal of portions of an abandoned <br /> pipeline,masonry plugs shall be installed in the open ends of the pipe, unless <br /> otherwise noted in the Drawings or by the Engineer. <br /> b. Coordinate with Engineer prior to plugging. <br /> c. For plugs less than 36 inches in diameter, 8-inch deep masonry units shall be used. <br /> For plugs in larger pipelines, 12-inch deep masonry units shall be used. <br /> 1111 <br /> 6. The costs associated with the removal of water and materials noted above will be <br /> considered incidental to trench excavation and backfill. <br /> H. Do not interfere with 45 degree bearing splay of foundations. I <br /> I. Overexcavation for Unsuitable Trench Foundation Conditions: <br /> 1. Cross-sectional dimensions and depths of excavations shown in the Drawings shall be <br /> subject to such changes as may be found necessary by the Engineer to secure foundations <br /> free from soft,weathered, shattered and loose material or other objectionable materials. 1 <br /> 2. Unsuitable materials shall be removed and replaced only as directed in writing by <br /> Engineer. I, <br /> 3. Unsuitable materials encountered shall be removed and replaced with Coarse Aggregate <br /> Type Al, 2-1/2 inch—0 gradation, as specified in Table 310516-A of Section 31 05 16, <br /> Aggregates for Earthwork. All material placed shall be compacted to 95 percent of <br /> maximum dry density. <br /> 4.
