•
KirklandDynami "
Closed Loop Extractor Process:
The Closed-Loop Extractor consists of several pressure vessels assembled in-line and separated by ball
valves and reducing connections. Item 1 is the Solvent Storage Vessel where the Butane solvent
(R600/600a) is stored for use during the extraction. Item 1 is a purchased item contained in a DOT
approved vessel. Items 2 and 3 are the Pressure Relief Valve and Pressure Gauge. These items may be
assembled by using a common piping connection. Item 4 is the refrigerant recovery pump used recover
and to compress the solvent after the extraction is complete. Item 5 is a1/4" NPT Ball valve assembled to
the Extractor Top lid. This ball valve is used to separate or close the connection between the recovery
pump and the extractor. A pressure relief valve is assembled between item 5 and the top lid to protect
the vessel from over pressurization (>120 psi). Items 6 and 7 are 2" and 4" Bolted Sanitary Tri-Clamp
fittings respectively, used to seal each vessel. The Tri-Clamp fitting includes a VITON seal between
mating vessels. Item 8 is a 5 pound size Material Vessel made from a 4" diameter x 48" stainless steel
ferruled pipe section. Item 9 is a 4"to 2" conical reducing ferrule. This section reduces the diameter
from the material vessel down to 2". Item 10 is a straight ferrule pipe section with a W' NPS Tee at 90
degrees to the 2" section. Item 10 allows for the assembly of a %" NPT Ball valve and %"JIC Fitting
Connection. Item 10 is used as a "Bottom-Up" Solvent fill option where the section just below the load
is saturated with solvent and the material vessel is filled from the bottom rather than from the material
vessel top lid (item 5). Item 11 is an assembled liquid filled pressure gauge for the Collection vessel.
Item 12 is a 3/8" NPT ball valve used for connecting the refrigerant recovery pump during the recovery
of the solvent. Item 13 is a 1.5" Bolted Sanitary Tri-Clamp fitting used at the Collection vessel lid. Item
14 is the column ball valve. Item 14 is a 2" sanitary ball valve that allows oils to be passed from the
material vessel to the collection vessel. Item 15 is a 1.5" diameter Sight Glass. There are two Sight
glasses used as visual process inspection ports to the collection vessel. Item 16 is a 10" diameter x
0.4375"thick collection vessel lid. This collection vessel lid is secured in place during the process and is
assembled to many of the components of the Closed-Loop extractor. Item 17 is one of two 10"
diameter Bolted Tri-Clamp Fittings for the Collection Vessel. Item 18 is the Collection Vessel 10"x 12"
long stainless steel ferruled pipe section.
Preparation for Extraction:
The operator may load up to 5 lbs of prepared Marijuana within the Material Vessel (Item 8 figure 5.1).
The operator replaces the top lid to the Material Vessel. The connection is secured by use of a high
pressure bolted Tri-Clamp fitting. Prior to fitting the top lid to the material vessel a VITON seal is
assembled to the fitting. The operator ensures that all ball valves within the closed-loop extractor
assembly are in the closed positions and all seals are installed to the mating ferrule fittings.
Prior to extraction the assembly is in a fixed and secure position and is not allowed to move. The
extractor is mechanically anchored to the processing room wall using a vibration-damping clamping U-
Bolt. This U-Bolt system is assembled using 2 x 1/2"-13 U-Bolt connections to a wall mounted steel plate
(See page 32).
9/1/2015 Project: 150703 Terpp MK IV CLE Report Page 7 of 44
KD Doc. 150703ER
