T • .
14 KirklandDynamics
With the Solvent Vessel outlet line attached to the Material vessel top lid the extraction is ready to
commence. The operator now opens the ball valve at the solvent vessel to material vessel. The liquid
butane solvent now expands due to the increase in volume and reduced pressure in the material vessel.
The solvent will partially change phase during this process to a gas as it stabilizes. This partial phase
change is due to the increased volume at reduced pressure as governed by the ideal gas law (Pv=nRT).
The valve between the Solvent Vessel and Material Vessel is closed once all the solvent has been
delivered. The Marijuana Solute and Solvent interface. Oils solute collects at the base of the material
vessel during this time.
After a known/set duration of time have passed the operator is ready for the next part of the process.
The operator ensures the ball valve below the material vessel connected to the solvent tank is closed.
The operator also confirms that the ball valve at the top of the material vessel is closed. The operator
now opens the 2" ball valve between the material vessel and collection vessel. Extracted oils flow to the
Collection vessel. Once all the oils have collected in the collection vessel the operator confirms the
system is stable by using the visual inspection sight glass at the top lid on the collection vessel. The
refrigerant recovery pump outlet is now attached using a 3/8" hose to the Solvent Vessel (fill port). The
refrigerant recovery pump inlet is attached using a 3/8" hose to the Collection Vessel (recovery port).
Ball valves at each of these ports restrict any flow until the operation is ready. With the assembly fully
connected the operator now opens both ball valves allowing the Solvent Vessel to refrigerant recovery
pump to Collection Vessel piping path to be open and connected. The Solvent is recovered by use of the
refrigerant recovery pump. The recovery pump reduces the pressure in the collection vessel allowing
the solvent to vaporize and leave solution. The solvent in gas phase is pulled through the recovery
pump and then compressed within the Solvent Vessel at 30 psi or less.
Once the solvent has been recovered from the Collection Vessel and with all ports and valves closed, the
extracted oils are ready to be collected. The operator removes the top lid of the collection vessel and
moves the collection vessel to a work table where the extracted oils are moved to a flat container such
as a sanitary pan.
9/1/2015 Project: 150703 Terpp MK IV CLE Report Page 8 of 44
KD Doc. 150703ER
