Walls
1. Fastener spacing shall be designed based on the allowable fastener shear and pullout values
given in the table on the following page.
2. Fastener shear shall be used to design to resist the downward dead load of the equipment.
3. Higher allowable shear loads may be used based on specific fastener test data installed into
Grade 33 steel. Information to be provided by fastener supplier.
4. If wind suction loads need to be considered (e.g. signage or larger equipment), allowable
fastener pullout shall be the governing factor.
5. If the design shear load exceeds the allowable shear load, fasteners may be fastened through
the entire thickness of panel into a backer support to utilize the shear capacities of both exterior
and interior facings. The interior backer support must be the same weight of the attached
material on the exterior to evenly distribute the shear loads to both facings.
6. If the design suction load exceeds the allowable pullout load, fasteners may be fastened through
the entire thickness of panel into a backer support to allow for higher fastener pullout and help
distribute the suction loads across the panels. The thickness of the backer support is dependent
on the suction loads and fastener spacing.
Fastener Pullout
Fastener Type Panel Facing Allowable Load
Minimum#12-14 or Fablok Exterior 45 lbs
Minimum#12-14 or Fablok Interior 35 lbs
Fastener Shear
Fastener Type Panel Facing Allowable Load
Minimum#12-14 26 gauge 155 lbs
Minimum#12-14 24 gauge 188 lbs
929 Aldridge Road Vacaville, CA 95688 PH 707-359-2280 FX 707-359-2287
