March 14, 2016
Gully Bank Stability Evaluation
Wright Residence
L&A Job No. 16-023
Page.4/)
Erosion/Landslide Hazard
According to GIS Critical Areas Map, 1 (see Plate 3), published by Everett Planning and
Development Department, the subject residence site is not mapped in areas of erosion or
landslide hazard.
Condition of Gully Bank
We conducted a reconnaissance on February 18, 2016, to observe conditions of the north
gully bank on which organic debris has been discarded. The debris pile consisted of
toppled trees, trimmed tree branches and twigs, grass clipping, and tree leaves. The
debris pile covers mostly the upper half of the north gully bank within the residence site,
with occasional debris scattered over the lower half of the bank. No signs of groundwater
seepage or soil movement from erosion or slides were observed on the gully bank during
our site reconnaissance.
SLOPE STABILITY EVALUATION
The gully banks within the subject residence site are composed of advance outwash
deposits of glacially consolidated, dense to very-dense, fine to coarse sand with trace to
some gravel. These deposits are of moderately-high shear strength with high resistance
against slope failures. The organic debris pile on the north gully bank is of relatively light
weight and does not post a heavy loading on the bank. Although the debris pile has a
tendency to kill off the native vegetation originally covering the bank, the debris pile
itself can also lessen the impact of rain drops and slow storm runoff on the bank.
LIU & ASSOCIATES, INC.
