Please read! THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION! YOU MUST PROVIDE
THIS INFORMATION WITH INVOICE BEFORE PAYMENT WILL BE ISSUED.
ECONOMIC IMPACT
Because the City of Everett operates the Hotel-Motel fund as an economic development tool, one of the key evaluation criteria for selecting
a project for funding is its potential economic benefit. In addition, the City is required to report to the State on the numbers of visitors and
the numbers of overnight stays generated by each project.
Please indicate the anticipated economic impact of your project andprovide the
estimated number of participants in each of the following categories;
• staying in overnight paid accommodations,
• traveling over 50 miles and staying overnight in unpaid accommodations (with friends or
family),
• traveling over 50 miles and;staying for the day only, attending but not included in one of the
above categories
• Total of all participants (sum of the first four categories).
Quantify your projections and indicate how you propose to verify your results
(for example, by head count or surveys). You will be required to provide post
event information for these same categories prior to reimbursement.
Remember, food and fuel purchases assist the local economy but do not contribute to the Hotel-Motel fund;the fund derives entirely from
taxes on overnight lodging in the county. if your project will not result directly in overnight stays, try to demonstrate how its success may
contribute to generating future overnight stays. An example might be a one-day festival you sponsor which, when combined with-and
jointly marketed with—an event the following day which appealed to the same audience, would encourage visitors to spend the night and
attend both events. In this example, it would be important to discuss the timeframe and strategy for future implementation of an
appropriate cooperative marketing campaign to link your one-day festival with the second one. Again, quantify your projections and
explain the methodology by which you developed them.
2017 point of sale surveys confirm that the unique combination of art exhibits, artist lectures, highly
popular Make it Now artmaking experiences, shopping, conferences and rentals, along with dynamic art
festivals attracted visitors from 29 Washington counties, 44 states, and 12 countries. 72% traveled from
outside Everett; 13% traveled 50+ miles (including 6% from other states and -1% from other countries).
Using 2017 visitorship percentages, we project Schack related tourism in 2018 as follows:
• 1,400 estimated people staying in overnight paid accommodations to participate at Schack
events. Our conservative projection was determined by estimating 2% of those who traveled 50+
miles. (Includes confirmed guests at local hotels during events and conferences PLUS more than
800 visitors from the Hampton and Marriot - based on an estimated 2 visitors per day x 2 hotels
within walking distance x 4 days per week x 52 weeks per year)
• 3,500 estimated people traveling 50+ miles, staying overnight in unpaid accommodations with
friends and family (based on 5% visitors that traveled 50+miles)
• 4,200 estimated traveling 50+ miles and staying in the county for the day only (based on 6% of
guests traveling 50+ miles)
• 60,900 traveling less than 50 miles to participate at the Schack
• 70,000 Total participants
We verify visitorship projections using daily head counts, online class and event registrations, raffles and
ticket sales and zip code surveys conducted at the point of sale.
In 2018, we will continue to capitalize on our key asset — a unique facility with expanded creative
services. Exhibits feature top regional talents. Our state of the art hot shop remains the only public
access facility of its kind between Seattle and Canada. As a result, the Schack attracts renowned
glassblowers and their patrons. This reinforces our position as a destination for "glass tourism".
Furthermore, fun art making experiences, i.e. our Make it Nows (MINs) are so popular they book to
capacity weeks in advance even during tourism off-season. Guests enjoy working alongside artists to
create their own art glass, pumpkins in particular. In fact, the first registrant for the 2017 fall Make it
Now Pumpkins was from Montana! Businesses, organizations, families and friends book Make it Now
Parties as well. Our two-day summer festival, Fresh Paint, attracts people annually from California to
Canada to the Carolinas and beyond; and, Schack-toberfest extended from four to ten days to meet
demand. To encourage hotel stays, we work with area hotels.
5
