( overnight stays: Research conducted by Village Theatre, a highly unique tourism asset
that offers a one-of-a-kind theatre experience in the region, indicates a 5% increase in the
number of Everett subscriber(3,504)and single ticket(5,104)households in the last two
seasons. During Village Theatre's 2016-2017 season that ended August 31,2017, 55,219
theatre-goers spent money on overnight stays and/or dinner before evening
performances, or on lunch before attending a matinee. Of this, 26% of single ticket
households (14,357 people, twice as many as last season)traveled 50 or more miles to
attend a show at Village Theatre. If only half of these single ticket holders spent one night,
7,179 stays would have been generated. Although we do not have concrete evidence to
support this estimated number of overnight stays, future marketing surveys will ask
theatre-goers about whether they were traveling for business or pleasure; whether they
stayed overnight, and if so, where; and whether they combined their performing arts
cultural experience with one of the area's many other tourism assets (e.g., outdoor
recreation, sports event, winery tour, etc.). Village Theatre contributes to the City of
Everett's economic impact with jobs, by generating visitors, and by generating an
estimated 7,179 overnight stays among its theatre-goers who travel 50 miles or more to
attend a production at the Everett Performing Arts Center(EPAC). According to the Arts &
Economic Prosperity Calculator designed by Americans for the Arts, this past season's
expenditure of$1,535,944 by Village Theatre in Everett had a total economic impact of
$3,167,966 (including $1,632,022 in event-related spending by audiences); supported 100
FTE jobs; resulted in $2,142,713 paid in household income to community residents as a
result of the expenditures made by our organization and its audiences; and generated an
estimated $144,355 in local and $185,607 in state government revenue. Village Theatre is
a major employer in the area, with 17 full-time and 325 part-time staff working in Everett.
This past season, 55,219 people attended Mainstage productions at EPAC, and tens of
( thousands more attended Everett's Pied Piper and KIDSTAGE performances for youth
and their families.
