Fu/BLIC AR/C5
b. 18 inches of clearance is required from the combustible roof assembly, unless
the listed assembly of one hour fire resistant duct wrap is shown on the
drawings. Note that an enclosed rated duct enclosure is not required where
penetrating a non-rated roof-ceiling assembly, per IMC section 506.3.11.4.
The Type I hood duct enclosure currently shown on the drawings does not
meet the reduction requirements for zero clearance to combustible
construction.
2. Where the kitchen ceiling abuts the Type I hood, 18 inches (currently 12 inches is
shown) of a smooth, cleanable, nonabsorbent and noncombustible material should
be shown on the drawings between the hood and the ceiling material, per the
exception to IMC section 507.9.
3. The elevation should be dimension the smooth, cleanable, nonabsorbent and
noncombustible material, shown on the drawings. This wall covering should be
noted to extend 18 inches in all directions from the hood to the full height of the
hood canopy, per the exception to IMC section 507.9.
4. The inside lower edges of the Type I commercial hoods should be dimensioned on
the drawings to extend minimum 6 inches beyond the edge of the top horizontal
surface of the appliance on all open sides, unless the hood is closed to the appliance
side by a noncombustible wall or panel meeting the requirements of the exception to
IMC section 507.9, specifically on the hood returns adjacent to wall construction:
5.
