1 ORDINANCE NO. 5'/O <br /> 2 <br /> 3 AN ORDINANCE amending Ordinance No. 779-81 which provides for the <br /> regulation of for-hire vehicles in the City of Everett. <br /> 4 <br /> 5 <br /> 6 THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br /> 7 Section 1: That Section 8 of Ordinance No. 799-81 which reads as follows: <br /> 8 <br /> Section 8: LIABILITY INSURANCE. Prior to the issuance of <br /> 9 any for-hire vehicle business license, every applicant shall file with the <br /> City Clerk the policy or policies of public liability insurance, approved as <br /> 10 to sufficiency by the City Clerk, and as to form by the City Attorney, <br /> issued by an insurance company or companies authorized to do business in <br /> 11 the state providing indemnity for or protection to the City as well as <br /> providing public liability insurance coverage for each and every vehicle <br /> 12 for hire owned, operated and/or leased by the applicant for injury to or <br /> death of persons, passengers, or otherwise, in accidents resulting from any <br /> 13 cause by which the owner of said vehicle would be liable on account of <br /> any liability imposed upon him by law, regardless of whether the vehicle <br /> 14 for hire was being driven by the owner or his agent, such insurance shall <br /> be in the sum of one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) for the injury or <br /> 15 death of one person, or three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) for the <br /> injury or death of more than one person in any one accident, and fifty <br /> 16 thousand dollars ($50,000) for property damage. <br /> 17 Every such policy of insurance shall continue to the full amount <br /> thereof notwithstanding any recovery thereon and shall provide that the <br /> 18 liability of the insurer shall not be affected by the insolvency or <br /> bankruptcy of the insured. Each insurance policy required hereunder shall <br /> 19 extend for the period covered by the license applied for and the insurer <br /> shall be obliged to give not less than ten days written notice to the City <br /> 20 Clerk in the event of any change or cancellation. <br /> 21 <br /> is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> 22 <br /> 23 Section 8: LIABILITY INSURANCE. Prior to the issuance of <br /> any for-hire vehicle business license, every applicant shall file with the <br /> 24 City Clerk the policy or policies of comprehensive general liability and <br /> auto liability insurance, approved as to sufficiency by the City Clerk, and <br /> 25 as to form by the City Attorney, issued by an insurance company or <br /> companies authorized to do business in the state providing indemnity for <br /> 26 or protection to the City as well as providing said insurance coverage for <br /> each and every vehicle for hire owned, operated and/or leased by the <br /> 27 applicant for injury to or death of persons, passengers, or otherwise, in <br /> accidents resulting from any cause by which the owner of said vehicle <br /> 28 would be liable on account of any liability imposed upon him by law, <br /> regardless of whether the vehicle for hire was being driven by the owner <br /> 29 or his agent.
