1 ORDINANCE NO. 8"?/ <br /> 2 <br /> 3 AN ORDINANCE relating to establishment and maintenance of fire lanes; <br /> providing procedures for impoundment of vehicles in fire lanes; and <br /> 4 providing other penalties and traffic violations for vehicles and <br /> property owners for violations. <br /> 5 <br /> 6 <br /> 7 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Everett determines that it is in the <br /> 8 public interest to provide for access roadways for Fire Department and emergency <br /> 9 apparatus upon the streets or ways open to the public where, because of the <br /> 10 congregation of people or the stopping, standing or parking of vehicles, there may exist <br /> 11 an especially hazardous condition in case of fire or other disaster; <br /> 12 NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: <br /> 13 Section 1: FIRE LANES AUTHORIZED. The Chief of the Fire Department <br /> 14 or his designee shall determine and specify, after giving notice by mailing to persons <br /> 15 whose names appear on the property tax rolls maintained in the Snohomish County <br /> 16 Assessor's Office in connection with said property, and to the current occupier(s) and by <br /> 17 posting a copy of said determination upon the premises in a conspicuous place, access <br /> 18 roadways of not less than twenty (20) feet of unobstructed width for Fire Department <br /> 19 apparatus and other emergency equipment and personnel. Said lanes are authorized on <br /> 20 streets or ways open to the public or where, because of the congregating of people or <br /> 21 the stopping, standing or parking of vehicles, there exists an especially hazardous <br /> 22 condition in case of fire or other disaster. Provided, building sites which contain more <br /> 23 than one hundred parking spaces shall be designed with access lanes and fire lanes not <br /> 24 less than twenty feet in width, forming a continuous route or loop connecting at both <br /> 25 ends with public streets. In parking lots containing less than one hundred parking spaces <br /> 26 emergency access shall be provided subject to approval of the Fire Chief or his <br /> 27 designee. Emergency access shall be provided to within fifty feet of any multiple <br /> 28 family building. Provided further that if any of these requirements are impractical due <br /> 29 to the peculiarities of the site and/or existing buildings, other provisions for emergency <br /> 30 access may be approved by the Fire Chief or his designee. <br /> 31 <br /> 32 <br />
